IEBC and Posta sign multi-million dollar logistics deal ahead of August election

The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) and the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) have signed an agreement worth KSh 700 million under which PCK will provide logistics services during the upcoming 2022 general election.
As part of the three-year contract, Posta will be responsible for the nationwide delivery of election materials to designated IEBC offices, camps, polling centers, and all other IEBC stakeholders.

Posta will be a logistics partner for the 2022 election, IEBC chief executive Marjan Hussein Marjan said at the signing ceremony on Monday.

“Efficient logistics services were key to a credible electoral process,” he noted, adding that the contract would go beyond the 2022 General Elections.

“IEBC will use PCK’s services should it require conveyance of election materials from one location to another.”

PCK chief executive Dan Kagwe said the company would “establish a follow-up mechanism to keep IEBC officials updated on the status of the material.”

Kagwe said Posta currently operates a web-based customer portal that allows details of materials to be captured from each point of collection to point of delivery.

As part of the cooperation agreement, Posta shall also ensure confidentiality when dealing with IEBC material and any other relevant information held by PCK to ensure the security and trustworthiness of the process.

During the 2017 general election, PCK earned 1.1 billion Kenyan shillings for logistics services provided to IEBC in the August 8 general election and the October 26 presidential re-election.

Under the previous two-year contract, Posta received 600 million shillings to deliver ballot boxes, paper and permanent ink to polling centers, and 500 million shillings to distribute voting materials and equipment for the presidential repeat election.

Posta has also recently partnered with government agencies such as the National Transport and Security Agency (NTSA), Kenya Medical and Supply Authority (KEMSA), and Immigration Services for various logistics operations.
