Kanini Kega: Raila Will Clinch More Than 50 Percent Of Mount Kenya Votes

Kanini Kega: Raila Will Clinch More Than 50 Percent Of Mount Kenya Votes: Kanini Kega, the Kieni member of parliament and director of elections for the Jubilee Party, expressed confidence that Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party, will receive more than 50% of the Mount Kenya votes.

Speaking in King’ong’o, Nyeri county, Kega claimed that the overwhelming backing shown to Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua during their recent week-long visit to the Mount Kenya region was proof that the mountain had endorsed an Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leadership.

“Baba and Martha’s trip to the Mt. Kenya region left us really pleased. Although they were overwhelming, especially in places where there was previously no reception, we are pleased with the numbers in Nyeri. We are often between 49% and 50%, which indicates that Baba is winning by a margin of more than 50%, according to Kega.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) final voters’ register show that the Mount Kenya and Rift Valley areas have the largest number of registered voters.

There are 5.3 million registered voters in the Rift Valley’s 14 counties, compared to 5.7 million in the Mount Kenya region’s 10 counties.

Despite the final IEBC voter register having a total of 22.1 million registered voters, presidential contenders need to receive more than 50% of the total votes cast in order to win the election.

Additionally, out of the 47 counties, they are anticipated to receive at least 25% of the votes in 24 counties.

Kega stated that his alliance will gauge Raila’s support based on voter turnout and predicted that he would win the election in the first round.

He continued by saying that with the support of the Mount Kenya area and strongholds in Nyanza, Western, Coast, Eastern, North Eastern, and Nairobi, Raila Odinga would become the next president.

“This time it will be over since Baba received the support of the majority of the nation.Because we think Baba is the better candidate than the other options we were given, the usual Raila voting bloc and now us in Central have decided that we will turn out in large numbers and make sure Baba wins the presidency,” he stated.

Regarding corruption, Kega claimed that Raila Odinga was the only candidate for president who had shown a willingness to combat the vice.

Kega referred to William Ruto, the vice president, and Rigathi Gachagua, his running mate, as “dealers,” and claimed that voters had a simple choice between Raila and Martha because they were dedicated to putting policies in place to prevent public officials from abusing their authority.

“All the other promises that the presidential candidates are making will not be fulfilled because they lack funding, I can assure you as the head of the Budget Committee.

They will only be supported if corruption is eradicated and funding is allocated to programs, Kega declared.

If public resource squandering is not curbed, there is no way we will be able to avoid borrowing or save for the future of the nation.

Raila Odinga is the only candidate who has demonstrated commitment via his history, manifesto, and public statements, which is why we have united to support him in his presidential bid.

Additionally, the Kieni lawmaker defended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to openly declare his support for Raila Odinga.

He claimed that the president was solely concerned with putting the right kind of leaders in charge of the nation.

Kega added that the president is in the best position to offer advice on the ideal candidate to follow him because he has had a distinguished working relationship with both Raila Odinga and the deputy president.

“You heard the president claim that he is the only one who is familiar with the two” (Raila Odinga and William Ruto). The president is in a good position to inform Kenyans of which among them would be the finest choice to govern this nation, according to Kega.

“Even when he met with religious leaders from Central Kenya, he explained to them why he had broken off his relationship and why he doesn’t trust William Ruto to lead this nation. The main reason is the history, he said. The past is absolutely necessary for the future. There is no chance that you will be a decent person in the future if you have not been a nice person in the past, he said.
