Kenyan musician Kevin Bahati has spoken out about the recent uproar over a viral photo featuring his wife, Diana Marua, and football star Victor Wanyama. The photo, which originally surfaced in 2020 and reignited controversy in June 2024, sparked speculation about Marua’s relationship with Wanyama.
Bahati shared the photo on his social media accounts on June 3, 2024, to generate publicity for their new Netflix show, The Bahati’s Empire. In a candid interview with Betty Kyallo on TV 47, Bahati addressed why he didn’t consult Wanyama before posting the picture. “Why should I ask Wanyama? He’s a friend. Wanyama and Mariga are close to me. I even supported Mariga’s campaign in Kibra,” he explained.
Bahati revealed that his decision to remain silent was strategic. He believed that addressing the rumors directly would not benefit anyone involved, especially his adopted son, and could potentially make matters worse. “Sometimes silence is misunderstood, but addressing rumors can fuel them further. Handling it with humor and moving on was the best approach,” he said.
Diana Marua expressed her frustration with the public’s judgment over her friendships, questioning why people felt entitled to dictate her associations. “Why can’t I have friends? Is it because he’s a celebrity?” she asked, highlighting the undue scrutiny she faces.
Bahati’s decision to stay silent was a protective measure for his family, opting to let the controversy subside naturally rather than escalate it by engaging with the rumors.
