Serena Williams, Lewis Hamilton Join Bid To Buy Chelsea
Tennis legend Serena Williams and F1 hero Lewis Hamilton are the latest to join the bid for Chelsea FC.
The pair reportedly raised a combined 3 billion Kenyan shillings for the bid.
The Broughton consortium, led by the former Liverpool chairman, is also bidding and includes world athletics chief Sebastian Coe and several tycoons.
Josh Harris and David Blitzer, private equity veterans who own sports teams, including the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, also backed Broughton’s proposal.
Williams is already an investor in Los Angeles Angels City Football Club, which will make its National Women’s Soccer League debut later this month. Owner Roman Abramovich made a final bid for Chelsea earlier this month when the British government imposed sanctions on the oligarch following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Others shortlisted to buy the Premier League club include Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Bolley and Boston Celtics part-owner Steve Pagliuca.
