  1. What are you planning to learn?

CPD planned learning form: Pharmacology, how drugs interact with the body, understanding the drugs often given to patients to help them manage pain or disease.  Drug List and Classification.

Learn about the fundamentals of pharmacology, how drugs work and what’s happening in drug discovery in the past and the future, pharmacology facts and skills, and ways to think critically as a pharmacist and talk to patients.  I will also study the origin, chemical properties, biological effects, and therapeutic uses of drugs.  Depending on many factors, these effects may be therapeutic or toxic.  I will learn about therapeutics, which focuses on the impact of drugs and other chemical agents to minimize disease, and toxicology, which studies the adverse or toxic effects of drugs and other chemical agents.  Toxicology teaches about drugs used to treat disease and chemicals that may be present in the home, environment, or industry. 1. How are you planning to learn it?

Research drug information that can be accessed online and outline precautions, side effects, interactions, dosing instructions, possible diagnoses, and lessons learned for patients and caregivers.  Access practice resources such as the B. Practice Guide and legal information, as well as textbooks covering medication information, nursing communication skills and critical thinking.  I will also Increase my CPD time, and learn about drug interactions and successful medication management online.  Attend workshops for caregivers to keep them up to date with the latest medication information.[2]

Assign different groups of remedies to learn to remember concepts and diverse groups of remedies in class.  This is to avoid confusion as it will help me focus on one mechanism, set of indications, route of administration, metabolism, elimination, side effects, and drug interactions as I go through the topic.  Use flashcards to speed up the memory process, interlinking concepts and employing the use of visual representations.[3]

  1. Give an example of how this learning has benefitted the people using your services

I have been able to learn about how different drugs interact when an active ingredient in a drug interferes or interacts with another drug or product.  For example, I correctly administered a different drug to a patient who was on amlodipine a calcium channel blocker, because administering clarithromycin to him would have caused renal failure and hypertension.  I have also come to learn some beneficial drug interactions for instance the use of oxycodone and acetaminophen because acetaminophen increases the absorption of oxycodone, making it more effective for pain relief.
