Boaz wanjala iyati, the main suspect in the Ngimari fire disaster, has been remanded to the Itabua police station in Embu County for further 14 days so that further inquiries may be made.

The prosecution asked the court to extend the suspect’s detention so that investigators could finish their investigation, and the judge granted their request. Samuel Onyamasi, the investigating officer, swore an affidavit in Runyenjes law court stating the need for detaining the subject while more investigation was conducted.

The affidavit states that the detective had contacted the director of public prosecutions for guidance and received permission to complete the suspect’s file. The suspect will undergo a mental evaluation and help authorities apprehend other wanted individuals throughout his remand period.

Because the suspect did not contest the detectives’ request, Senior Principal Magistrate Josphat Gichimu in Runyenjes has ordered that he be brought before the court again on January 27 of this year. On January 9, the magistrate granted the investigators 7 additional days to keep Wanjala in jail, and today is his second arraignment.

On the evening of October 2nd, 2016, the suspect is believed to have set a fire in ngimari village, Runyenjes Embu county, and burned to death a family of seven who were a missed target.

After months on the run, he was finally apprehended by detectives on Friday, June 6 in his native hamlet of Navakholo, Kakamega County.
