President William Ruto announced a six-day multi-sectoral dialogue forum starting Monday, July 15, to address pressing issues in Kenya. The forum, to be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, will include representatives from political parties, religious groups, civil society, employers, and youth. Participants will cover their attendance costs.
Ruto emphasized that the forum aims to propose solutions for the country. He made the announcement after signing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which followed recommendations from the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) after the disputed 2022 presidential election.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga supported the dialogue, calling it the best way to address the country’s current crisis. He highlighted issues like unemployment, corruption, ethnicity, debt, and economic management as key discussion points. The forum follows deadly nationwide protests against increased taxation and President Ruto’s leadership, which have resulted in over 39 deaths.
