Tanzania declares two days of mourning for Kibaki
Tanzanian President Samia Suruhu has declared two days of mourning following the death of Kenya’s third president, Mwai Kibaki.
President Suluhu called on Tanzanians to join Kenya in mourning the late former head of state, who will be buried at his home in Othaya, Nyeri district, on Saturday, April 30, in a statement from the Tanzanian State Department on Thursday, April 28.

In addition, she ordered all flags across the country to be flown at half-staff in honor of Kibaki, who served as commander-in-chief of the Kenyan Armed Forces from 2002 to 2013.
“National mourning is scheduled to begin on April 29, 2022 and end on April 30, 2022.
“During two days of national mourning, the Tanzanian flag will be flown at half-staff across the country and all Tanzanian diplomatic missions abroad,” the statement said.
Suluhu described Kibaki as a true statesman committed to the economic development of the East African Community (EAC).
“President Samia extends her heartfelt condolences to the people of Kenya and calls on Tanzanians to stand in solidarity with their neighbours during this difficult time as they mourn the passing of their former leader,” said part of the statement.
