Another young man’s life taken by depression and a futile future  read the news channel today. A General Service unit officer (GSU) officer in the interior CS Matiangis office has died in a love escapade that turned bitter.

CS Matiangi said in a tweet. “I am deeply pained by the tragic incident involving PC Hudson Wakise and his wife PC Pauline Wakasa both young and vibrant Police officers with brilliant futures tragically ended in their shocking demise. It’s a rude awakening to psychosocial challenges amongst some of our young officers that we have no choice but to now pay greater attention to. My sincere condolences to their families and friends.”

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai recorded in a statement that Hudson Wakise assaulted the wife with a firearm killing her instantly and then turned the gun on himself. Pauline Wakasa was a fellow officer who operated at the Kilimani police station traffic department. There were marital problems that made him shot his wife and then himself according to the IG.

Wakise has been on leave but reported to work on Tuesday 6th and went home to where the wife had moved a few weeks ago according to Mutyambai.

Respondents said that the couples lived together in the camp until the wife moved out. The bodies of the two were found in the living room as well as nine guns and ammunition used along with two magazines were found at the scene.

There have been such incidents in the police service mainly due to depression, low pay, and poor working and living conditions. These have led to psychological problems that are looming in the force, where the officers are taught to be brutal and no counseling or psychosocial services are offered, although the police service said the massive suicides were a result of unsupervised junior corps in the service who lived outside the camps.

The commission reported that the problems were caused by job stagnation, disciplinary actions, and lack of junior office monitoring. Cs Matiangi pressed the need for police force counseling and call service for deranged cops.
