Couple charged with murder,  disposing of a minor’s body at Mama Lucy hospital, arrested at Kenya-Tanzania border

A couple has been arrested after trying to leave Kenya after abusing and killing a three-year-old boy in February.

On Wednesday, DCI investigators smoked Phylis Njeri and her husband Jockson Ngui from their hideout in the village of Illasit, near the Kenya-Tanzania border.

The couple are accused of killing Peter Ndung’u at his home in the Kwamaji area of Morum in the Kamukungi sub-district while his 6-year-old brother watched.

The deceased’s older brother, Peter Ndung’u, was also said to have been beaten and threatened with dire consequences if he revealed what happened to his brother.

DCI head George Kinoti said baby David’s body was dumped at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital with severe burns to his hands, legs and buttocks. It also had new damage to its neck, back and face.

“Realizing the gravity of their actions, the murderous couple desperately tried to find medication from the local pharmacy, but the little angel was long gone,” Chinotti said.

Kinoti added that the suspects are currently being transferred to Nairobi, where they will face murder charges.
Maureen Njoki left the country last November for Saudi Arabia in search of greener pastures, leaving the boys in Njeri’s care.

Njoki received heartbreaking news of her son’s horrific murder just four months after she left, sparking outrage from Kenyans who called on DCI to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, detectives from the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, the Division of Biology and their crime scene colleagues will visit the murder suspect’s home to conduct more DNA analysis and more scientific evidence at the crime scene.
