Former President Mwai Kibaki To Be Buried on April 30 in Othaya
Kenya’s third president, Mwai Kibaki, will be buried on Saturday, April 30, CS Fred Matiang’i said.
Kibaki will receive a state funeral with the highest honor.
However, the retired president’s body will be in the parliament building for public viewing from Monday to Wednesday. The service will take place at Nyayo Stadium on April 29. Diplomats can visit the families of the deceased at the office of the late head of state Nyeri.
“We have finalized the initial plans for the state funeral of President Mwai Kibaki and I want the public to know that it will be held at the National Stadium on Friday April 29 2022,” he said.
A facility will be set up at the CDF’s Othaya office for members of the public to express their condolences.
“For those in Nairobi who would like to visit family, this will happen on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Kibaki office in Nyari. We are going to deliver the map details to the office,” he said.
“It is here that members of the diplomatic corps or senior members who may wish to visit family to convey condolences will go to the Nyari office on Tuesday and Wednesday … we are going to set up a facility at the Othaya CDF office in Nyeri for members of the public as it is located in the city center, which will give the citizens and leaders of this section the opportunity to visit and pay their respects.”
Kibaki died on Friday at the age of 90.
