Paul Rotich, the new Eastern Regional Commissioner, has pledged to address the out-of-control insecurity in the counties of Marsabit, Isiolo, and Meru. After working in the conflict-torn region, Rotich, a former Marsabit County Commissioner, said he was aware of the difficulties the region faced and would stop at nothing to ensure that a sustainable peace was established.

In order to more effectively combat dangers like livestock rustling and highway banditry, he stated he will use a multi-agency strategy that involves cooperation and integration of multiple fundamental security organizations.

“We are going to engage widely with all stakeholders and also recommend for advancement of methods of addressing the insecurity menace in the areas,” the RC said.

Rotich also promised to tackle the counterfeit and illicit liquor menace head on during the handover ceremony from his predecessor Evans Achoki at the Regional Headquarters offices in Embu Town on Monday.

He stated that he will continue the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) campaign launched by his predecessor to rid the region of the threat and protect residents’ lives. The Regional boss also promised to maintain the current growth trajectory by embracing teamwork to ensure that government projects, both ongoing and pending, were completed to wananchi’s satisfaction.

“Our promise to the people of the Eastern Region is that we will give our best to have the government agenda achieved,” he said. He listed other important initiatives that will carry on as usual, including the continuing tree-planting campaign, the fertilizer subsidy, and the feeding program for areas affected by the prolonged drought. The departing RC, on the other hand, expressed satisfaction with his year of service in the area, stating that the leaders’ and other stakeholders’ support and collaboration was crucial to maintaining the area’s peace and security.

According to him, peace and reconciliation efforts with warring communities in the areas prone to instability saw significant investment and work during his reign and saw significant results. “I call upon the residents of this region to accord the incoming RC the same cooperation they extended to me for the betterment of service delivery,” Achoki said
