Ndindi Nyoro: Funding for the vice president’s office has been cut,
Funding for the vice president’s office has been cut, according to allegations by allies of the vice president. Ndindi Nyoro, an MP for Kiharu and one of Ruto’s staunchest allies, claimed that the finance ministry had been given the go-ahead to close the budget of Ruto’s office and other poll chiefs, such as refuelling vehicles in the vice president’s motorcade. He said the vice president was withdrawing funding from his office, which was funded entirely by the state treasury, unlike other government offices. As a result, Ruto was publicly humiliated despite his presidency.
“We don’t have any issue with him (Uhuru). He removed us from our positions and even robbed the deputy president of his powers…Kenyans are not aware of how this government has disregarded the deputy president. All the government offices have a budget. The government provides tea and also fuels the cars. “The deputy president, when travelling around Kenya on official duties, pays for his ticket. He provides tea for diplomats and governors meeting him on official engagements. When he calls the president, he is not answered to. The president has also been snubbing him in public,” said Nyoro.
Earlier, Emmanuel Talam, communications director in Ruto’s office, claimed that the ODP ceased to operate from the treasury in September 2021. Talam revealed that the vice president uses his own money to manage the office’s day-to-day operations. According to Talam, Ruto also used his money to pay for accommodation and other expenses for personnel, including security guards who accompanied him on the campaign trail.
It was also found that the Presidency Accounting Officer, comprising the President and Vice President, had not provided per diem to Ruto’s staff since the date mentioned earlier. According to Talam, the ODP has not received communication from the Treasury Department on the cessation of funding for its operations.
