Maina Kageni Admits to Not Taking a Matatu in 26 Years

Maina Kageni, a well-known presenter of Classic 105’s breakfast show, has recently revealed that he hasn’t taken a matatu in over 26 years. During a conversation with Mwalimu King’ang’i on the Kasheshe segment, Maina was asked about his last matatu ride or walking experience. He answered that he hasn’t walked in a long time and his last matatu ride was in 1997. Furthermore, Maina expressed his interest in taking a matatu to Kilimani and asked for a sacco to volunteer to take him there. King’ang’i suggested that Maina should try a busy route like Githurai for a better experience.

It’s not uncommon for public figures to avoid using public transportation in Kenya. Vera Sidika, another public figure, has also avoided taking matatus for 14 years since her university days in 2009. Many Kenyans have shared their opinions on this topic on social media, with some expressing surprise that these individuals haven’t taken a matatu in such a long time, while others feel it’s a personal choice and should be respected.

While public transportation in Kenya has its challenges, it remains the most affordable means of transport for many Kenyans. Matatus play a crucial role in the country’s transportation sector, and it’s important to ensure their safety and regulate their operations. Public figures can help in promoting and supporting the industry by using public transportation and highlighting the importance of its accessibility and affordability for all.
