Kenya’s Attorney General Justin Muturi to Challenge LGBT NGO Registration

by TopNews

The Attorney General of Kenya, Justin Muturi, has announced his intention to challenge the ruling by the five High Court bench that allowed the registration of LGBT NGO. Muturi has stated that Kenyans should be allowed to express their opinions on the matter since it is an issue that weighs on life. Speaking at St Emmanuel Kigari church in Manyatta, Muturi noted that the debate should be taken outside the church and that Kenyans should be given the opportunity to give their inputs.

Muturi has emphasized that the country has its values and that, in the interest of the public, he will seek a full bench of the Supreme Court to address the matter. According to Muturi, the mode of the country is against the ruling, and the input of the opposite leadership will be critical to moving forward.

Several leaders, including Kiambu Women’s Rep Ann Wamuratha and former Mbeere North MP Muriuki Njagagua, have called for an appeal of the ruling, citing a conflict with the constitution. Wamuratha has vowed to table a motion in Parliament seeking to amend the Sexual Offences Act, arguing that it is unfair to have teen boys who engage in sex suffer and languish in jail.

The issue of LGBT rights has been a controversial topic in Kenya, with many people expressing strong opposition to the LGBT community. The ruling allowing the registration of LGBT NGO has further fueled the debate, with some leaders arguing that it goes against the country’s values and traditions.

While the debate continues, it is important for all sides to respect the rights and dignity of all individuals, including members of the LGBT community. Kenya is a diverse country, and it is crucial to ensure that everyone’s rights are protected and that no one is discriminated against based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. As the legal battle continues, it is my hope that a solution that upholds the rights of all Kenyans will be reached.
