Waiguru asks for Uhuru-Ruto handshake

The feud between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Vice President William Ruto has reached a crescendo, according to Governor Anne Waiguru of Kirinya.

At a rally on Tuesday, March 29, Waiguru urged the two to negotiate a truce. She implored Uhuru to initiate a handshake between the two to ease escalating tensions between the allies.

Waiguru was referring to allegations President Uhuru Kenyatta made against his deputy, who accused him of conspiring to impeach him before his gentleman struck a deal with Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

The president reportedly made the allegations during a meeting with the Kikuyu Council of Elders at the State Capitol on Saturday, March 26.

The former decentralization secretary in the cabinet asked Uhuru to convene a meeting before the Aug. 9 general election and resolve his differences with his deputy.

She also defended Ruto, the leader of the Kenyan Kwanza Union, insisting he never intended to undermine the Uhuru government.

“If you manage to get a handshake deal with Lyra, we ask you to shake hands with Ruto for the next four months so you don’t leave the divided faction when your powers run out,” explained Waiguru .

Waiguru justified her call for a truce between the two leaders, making it clear that a handshake would ensure Uhuru leaves power with his dignity.

“We ask that you make a handshake agreement with Ruto so that even if you leave the stage after the August election, your dignity is protected,” Waiguru pleaded.
