Top UDA organ orders repeat primaries in these 4 constituencies
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has decided to repeat the primary within four inauguration days after the exercise.
Repeat primary elections will also be held in multiple counties on April 19, UDA National Election Board (NEB) chairman Anthony Mwaura said in a statement on Saturday.
The party will also nominate in areas not covered by the April 14 primary.
The affected constituencies are Rongai, Moiben (Uasin Gishu), East Turkana and West Turkana (Turkana) in Nakuru, and Mount Elgon in Bungoma County.
These constituencies are in Biashara (Nakuru City), Bumula, Mt Elgon, Malava, Lugari, Turkana East, Turkana Central, and Likuyani constituencies.
The others are Mahiga and Endarasha in Nyeri County and several other districts in Meru County.
Mwaura noted that the party had arranged for a hearing to be dealt with by the Political Parties Election and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee (EDRC) at the Makindi Road Liar Centre in Nairobi.
“We urge all of our candidates to follow this established channel to address any issues or grievances that may arise during the nomination process,” Mwaura said, in favor of the values and principles of the UDA party constitution,” he added.
Final nomination certificates for all successful applicants will be issued next week, April 23-25.
“The party headquarters will publish a timetable showing the dates of issuance of nomination certificates for each district,” he noted.
Reports suggest the group, led by Vice President William Ruto, may have decided to repeat elections in some regions as it is keen to field strong candidates.
“The party wants a strong candidate in certain districts. For example, in Rongai, Nakuru County, the party wants a strong candidate to compete with the late President Daniel in the general election on August 9. President Daniel Moi’s son Raymond Moi confronted,” a source told the Daily Nation.
