Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland has been in exceptional form recently, scoring eight goals in two matches against RB Leipzig and Burnley. City legend and current Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has compared Haaland to some of the greatest players in the game, such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, and Ronaldinho. Kompany also noted that Haaland’s willingness to improve is exciting to see, as his game has already improved since he arrived six months ago.
Haaland has already scored over 40 goals this season, and could potentially reach 60 before the campaign is out. This puts him in the same bracket as Messi and Ronaldo, who both achieved this landmark in Spain. Haaland has scored 42 goals in 37 games this season, with an average of one goal every 68 minutes. He has also scored six hat-tricks and is currently the top scorer in the Premier League, with 28 goals.
When compared to Ronaldo’s prolific 2014-15 season, Haaland has already matched his Champions League tally and has a better minutes per goal ratio. Ronaldo scored 61 goals in 54 games that season, with an average of one goal every 76 minutes. He also scored eight hat-tricks and 13 penalties, with 23 assists. Meanwhile, when compared to Messi’s incredible 2011-12 season, Haaland has a long way to go, as Messi scored 73 goals in 60 games, with an average of one goal every 70 minutes, and 29 assists.
