Electoral agency chairperson Wafula Chebukati said in a statement on Tuesday that candidates running for the independent must provide the IEBC with a security clearance from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) stating that you are on May 2. was not a member of a registered political party before the date of

They must also provide the committee with the symbols they intend to use in the election on the same day.

Chebukati said the committee would publish the names and symbols in the Kenya Gazette by May 13.
Candidates must then collect legally required forms from district and constituency offices to gather information about their supporters, then forward them to election officials.

Chebukati said: “The Commission will deny candidacy to the Office of Elective Candidates for any elective candidate who is an independent candidate, either in the Constitution or under any other written law,” Chebukati said.

Likewise, political parties must submit a list of members certified by the ORPP office to the committee by Saturday, April 9.

All parties must provide the IEBC with the names of candidates, dates, and locations of nominations on the same day, while nominations and intra-party disputes will be resolved by April 22.
“Parties should submit to the committee no later than April 22, 2022, a sample of the name and signature of the authorized official who authenticates the official nominee of the committee,” Chenukati added.

Additionally, presidential candidates running on the party ballot or independently must return their completed statutory forms to the IEBC by May 23.

As the political climate heats up, the IEBC has committed to upholding the complete electoral code of conduct during elections.

In the ODPP’s electoral justice compendium released on Monday, Chekukati said the committee’s code of conduct committee has fulfilled its constitutional mandate to ensure the electoral process and will not relax in the upcoming elections.
“We have a total of 71 cases under the Code of Conduct Committee, we will not, we will ensure firm action is taken against those who violate the Code of Conduct and that the law is upheld,” he said.
