Special Marathon to be Held Along Nairobi Expressway: The Kenya Athletics Association has announced that it will host a new annual event on the newly built Nairobi Highway.
In a statement on April 7, the Kenya Athletics Association (AK) announced via their social media platforms that the race will be officially named Uhuru Classic City Marathon.
The annual event kicks off this year, with the marathon scheduled for May 8.
The Nairobi Expressway opened to the public on Saturday, April 9, connecting Westlands and Mlolongo in the Machakos district for 27.1 kilometers.
The categories include a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K,” explained Athletics Kenya’sKenya’s Twitter account.
Special Marathon to be Held Along Nairobi Expressway
Nairobi joins other cities like Chicago, London, Boston, and New York that regularly host prestigious races and attract celebrity athletes with the City Marathon.
The Uhuru Classic Marathon is expected to offer athlete prizes that rival the considerable prize money of the already established urban marathon.
Athletes who win such an elite urban marathon will be awarded between 5 million and 15 million Kenyan shillings.
