Police start probe after Body of DCI officer found in Teso home: Police in Teso North in Busia County has launched an investigation into the death of a criminal investigator who found a body at his home.

Corporal Humphrey Mureithi’s body was discovered by colleagues on Tuesday afternoon after the door to his home was forcibly opened to allow entry.

Teso North District Police Commander David Muange, who confirmed the incident to The Star, said Mureithi was supposed to report on Tuesday, but the officer did not.
That prompted his colleagues to drive to his office next to Amagoro Elementary School to see if he couldn’t get to work.

“Other officers called him in the morning, but all calls went unanswered,” Muange told The Star over the phone.

“They drove to his apartment and tried to call him again at the door, but no one answered even though the house was locked from the inside. We had to cut the door to get into the house, only to find him dead in bed.”

The officer who picked the body said he was naked. Mureithi’s body was taken to the morgue at Bungoma Life Care Hospital.

A DCI official who spoke with the star said a friend of the deceased told a police officer they had tried unsuccessfully to contact him.

“His friend called the officer and told him he wanted to speak to Mureithi, but the deceased did not answer any calls,” the DCI official said.
Mureithi’s friend was in Uganda at the time.

“We thought he might be tired and fell asleep. We called him at night because he was late for work but didn’t answer our calls. So we decided to go to his house and it turned out he was dead.”

Neighbors who spoke with the star said Murresi was happy until his body was found at his home.

Colleagues who spoke to the star described Mureithi as a sociable man who interacted freely with other officials and the public.

“He was a cheerful man and never had unnecessary disagreements,” said an official at the Amagoro police patrol base.

Another DCI official said Mureithi would be remembered for his full-time commitment to the job.

“He was always available. He loved what he did and we will miss him,” he said.
Neighbors say Mureithi is always on call to help those in need whenever he can.

“He was polite and spoke openly to everyone we lived in,” said one neighbor.

Mureithi had served DCI at Teso North for two years at the time of his death.
