1,000 runners to take part in this year’s Nandi Road Race

1,000 runners are expected to take part in this year’s Nandi Road Race, which will take place on Sunday 3 July at Nandi Forest in Nadi County.

The race will be flagged off at Kapsasur along Kisumu Road and at Namgoi Primary School.

So far, more than 750 athletes have signed up for the competition, including 550 males and 230 females, and organizers hope to increase the number ahead of the registration deadline.

“We’ve seen huge growth since this competition started. The impact on the community has also been huge since we started our tree planting campaign. We also use the registration fees from athletes to buy and distribute sanitary pads to schools in the communities where the competition is taking place, ” said Hosea Sanga, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee and LOC

Sanga also announced​​ that official registration for the competition will open this week.
Meanwhile, event organizers were caught off-guard after bookmaker Mozzart Bet announced a KSh 3 million sponsorship for this year’s event.

“The theme of the competition has always been in line with Mozart’s mission to make Kenya a better place for communities. Nadi has a 24% forest cover and plans to increase this to 50% to complement the government’s 10% national goal. forest cover efforts” said Sasa Krneta, country manager at Mozart Bet.

This year’s competition, which has been running since 2006, has the slogan “Working to support a green economy and build resilience to climate change risks” and aims to help organizers achieve environmental protection to reduce the impact of increasing human activity on water towers. Each participating athlete will receive a seedling to keep up with the theme of the competition.

The winners of the 2021 Valencia Marathon, Nancy Gerragatt and Emmanuel Bol, won the women’s and men’s divisions respectively at last year’s 12th edition.
