President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned Kenyans against electing leaders who overturn land reforms.
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Uhuru said the land cartels are re-grouping which is an issue.
The head of state, therefore, urged Kenyans not to vote for the cartel that will take Kenya back to the dark days of theft.
“We want people to push this agenda and make sure that every Kenyan has their own rights and property. This will not bring us back to the age of theft and other things,” President Uhuru said. Under the plan, Kenyans will receive 1 million of 6 million land titles, which must be issued to individuals and groups across the country.
Uhuru said Kenyans must continue to pray that when he leaves office, there will be someone in the country to build on the foundation he has laid to speed up land sector reforms and expand the issuance of title deeds to Kenyans, communities, and other institutions.
The president urged those who acquired titles to keep title deeds for their families and not to abuse them.
“Let’s not treat these documents as private property. This document belongs to you and your family, and you need to sit down and plan how you can use it to improve your and your family’s lives.”
Last year, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) deployed 26 detectives to the Land Fraud Unit to investigate cases quickly.
In a tweet, DCI noted that detailed investigators were deployed, with professional backgrounds in land surveying, land economics, physical land planning and management, and more.
