Kagame to seek fourth term as Rwandan president

by Deep dickens

Rwandan leader Paul Kagame wants to run for president again in the next election in 2024.

In an interview with French television channels, the 64-year-old said he would “think about running for another 20 years”.

“Elections are about people voting,” he added.

In 2015, Mr. Kagame amended the constitution to allow him to remain in power until 2034.

In the last presidential election five years ago, he won 99 percent of the vote, according to official figures — a move that many abroad dismissed as a fraud.

President Kagame fiercely defended Rwanda’s human rights record at a Commonwealth summit in the capital, Kigali, in June.
