The Kenyan government is preparing to evacuate its citizens in Sudan as the country faces a possible humanitarian crisis following clashes between the army and paramilitary forces in major cities. The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has set up a multi-agency technical team to monitor the situation and is preparing to provide humanitarian assistance and emergency evacuation if necessary.

The government has advised Kenyans in Sudan and their relatives in Kenya to contact the ministry through provided emergency lines in case of any emergencies. The evacuation may not be immediately possible, as several airlines have suspended flights to and from Sudan, and the Khartoum International Airport has been closed.

Kenya is also working on facilitating peaceful negotiations between the warring factions in Sudan, and President William Ruto will be part of a high-level delegation nominated by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (Igad) to mediate the leaders of the two factions in Khartoum.

The Igad delegation is set to engage the two leaders at the earliest possible time. So far, no Kenyan casualties have been reported, and the ministry is advising Kenyans to stay indoors as they monitor the situation.
