Nanyuki traders will profit from an ultra-modern market that fosters commerce.
On Saturday, February 18, 2023, Housing and Urban Planning PS Charles Hinga inspected Nanyuki Town Open Air Market and said the government was dedicated to strengthening traders’ business climate.
“Most Kenyans are merchants by nature and what they look for is the dignity of their hustles and the areas they deal from, but most of them trade in filthy places, where there is no road, drainage and other amenities, thereby attracting people with poor purchasing power,” said Hinga. Governor Joshua Irungu and East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri joined the PS.
He stated his administration sent county engineers to design Nanyuki town’s two-story market.
He announced a similar endeavor to modernize 400 markets in all 47 counties. He calmed traders’ concerns about the market’s construction.
“The Government in cooperation with the County Government will arrange for the traders to transfer to a separate place to pave way for the modern market,” he said. Governor Irungu believed the new market would boost business.
I look forward to working with the government on affordable housing. Irungu claimed Laikipia’s cheap housing scheme might decongest neighboring counties.
