COTU Secretary-General Francis Attwoli has dismissed Vice President William Ruto’s bottom-up economic model for deceiving Kenyans.
Speaking at a meeting of more than 50 affiliates earlier today in preparation for next month’s Labour Day celebrations, Atwoli condemned the DP’s unrealistic approach to addressing Kenyans.
The outspoken union leader said Ruto’s bottom-up economic model was impossible to implement because the only way to grow the economy was to have the right policies to encourage it.
Attwoli urged DP to attract investors, directly or indirectly, rather than commit to an economic model that will never emerge.
“I studied basic economics and nothing is more important than bottom-up. If someone tells you this, they are likely to offend you. You can’t empower the poor by using a poor. Keep the economy growing The only way to do this is to take appropriate measures to boost overall economic growth,” Atwoli said.
The SG also commented on ANC leader Mudawadi’s move to shelve the presidential candidacy in favor of Ruto.
According to Attwoli, the opposite should happen. For example, Mudawadi has been in politics longer and has served various governments, ranking him the most qualified.
Therefore, Atwoli said, the DP should support Ruto Mudavadi’s presidential ambitions, not what happened.
“Yeye hafai atolee William Samoei Ruto kofia, Ruto ndiye anafaa kumtolea kofia,” Atwoli said.
