Azimio Names 7-Member Committee To Lead Search for Raila Running Mate
The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance has appointed a team of seven to advise Raila Odinga on the selection of suitable comrades.
Junet Mohamed, secretary-general of the party’s executive committee, told a news conference on Wednesday that the committee was tasked with identifying and submitting the names of potential candidates to represent Odinga by May 10, 2022.
A panel of deeply respected elders have graciously agreed to assist Azimio come up with a competent and suitable runningmate candidate to deputize H.E Raila Odinga.

The team consists of; Bishop Peter Njenga, Archbishop Zacchaeus Okoth, Senator Enoch Wambua, Michael Orwa, Dr. Noah Wekesa, Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa, and Beatrice Askul Moe.
In announcing the appointment of Elizabeth Meo as secretary of the panel, the seven-member team was also directed to elect the chair by consensus.
“Eligible candidates must demonstrate respect for the people, bring honor to the people, bring dignity to the office, build public confidence in the integrity of the office, and demonstrate that nomination for public office is a duty, serving the people, not power. to rule them,” Junit said.
“You must also demonstrate personal integrity in public and private life, impartiality in decision-making, selfless service based solely on the public interest, accountability to the public, and discipline and dedication to serving the people.”
Junet further added: “As such, the vetting of candidates and subsequent nomination of a candidate for this key position is a matter of vital national importance, in the spirit of inclusion, promoting party and national unity, and transparency. The principles of good governance carried out in the spirit and the collective wisdom of drawing on the goodwill and experience of prominent Kenyan personalities and experience in various leadership positions must be implemented.”
The announcement comes a day after the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) extended the deadline for presidential candidates to release their shortlists from April 28, 2022, to May 16, 2022.
