Didmus Barasa annuls reports of branding CDF car for UDA campaigns
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa annuls reports that police searched his home and seized a campaign vehicle marked in the colors of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The MP told Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday 24 May that he was unaware of the raid when he fled his home.
He has not been notified of the alleged raid but confirmed he was using the Constituency Development Fund tool as a government official. Balassa added that he owns several cars, including one given to him by his friends during the campaign. “I don’t know what’s going on. I’m not at home and haven’t been in touch yet. I’m waiting for them to contact me.
“I have so many cars. Some will be donated by friends and will be revealed when the official event kicks off on May 29. I’ll wait and see what they tell me, but I actually use CDF vehicles every day,” he said.
He also denied claims he branded the vehicle with his photo and the UDA colors of Vice President William Ruto.
Reports of his raid on the Kimilili mansion surfaced on Tuesday, and police said they had launched a manhunt for the lawmaker.
Barasa is also accused of changing the GK number plates of CDF vehicles.
According to Kimilili district police chief Mwita Maroa, the car was confiscated from the house in Nasianda village.
The raid was carried out by officials from the Nairobi Government Inspection Unit in collaboration with staff from the Serious Crimes Unit and officials from the Nairobi and Kimilili Criminal Investigation Directorate (DCI).
“We were involved in a joint operation with officers from the Nairobi Government Vehicle Control Unit, the Serious Crimes Unit, and the Criminal Investigation Directorate in Nairobi and Kimilili.
“We took the initiative to go to the CDF offices but did not find it there, so we proceeded to his home where we found it,” the officer told Nation.
