Matiang’i has declared Tuesday 3 May a public holiday to celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr

Interior CS, Fred Matiang’i has declared Tuesday 3 May a public holiday to celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr.
In exercising his powers under Section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act, Fred Matiang’i announced in the Official Gazette that 3 May was a public holiday.
According to the Muslim calendar, this day marks the end of Ramadan.

During Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, Muslims wake up to cleanse their bodies in a ritual called ghusl.

After getting dressed for the day, they gather in mosques or outdoor venues to pray, listen to khutba (sermons) and offer Zakat al-Fitr (charity in the form of food). Since then, many have gone to the graves of their loved ones to pray and clear the designated sites. Believers also exchange gifts during this time.
