Controversial businessman and former MCA candidate Dennis Mbae died after being shot by unidentified gunmen in the Bonanza area of Embu town on Wednesday night, June 8.
According to Embu West Subdistrict Police Chief Julius Kyumbule, an investigation has been launched to investigate the incident, which occurred 250 meters from the politician’s heavily guarded home.
He revealed that the attacker fled in an unmarked vehicle.
“Indeed, the dealer was on his way home when he was attacked by someone without a license plate on his way home. We have launched an investigation to find out what happened,” he said.
Witnesses at the scene told the media that Mbai was attacked by gunmen shortly after closing his shop in the town of Embu.
The gunman chased Mbae’s vehicle and continued to hold it in front of him – firing more than 20 times at close range before speeding away.
“The victim was badly injured in the attack that night and did not survive,” an eyewitness said.
Residents responding to the shooting found the politician moaning in pain in the cab. He was taken to the Embu Referral Hospital but died of blood loss.
“I was at home when the gunshots went off. I ran to the scene and was shocked to find the businessman injured in the car,” another witness told the outlet.
Police Chief Kyumbule urged relatives and colleagues of the politician to be patient while police rush to investigate the matter and hold the perpetrators accountable.
During the 2017 general election, Mbae ran for the Kirimari seat on the Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket but lost to Maurice Muchiri.
