Revealed: Reason Radio Africa Group franchise fired Kamene Goro

Kamene Goro, who hosts the morning show on Kiss FM, will do her last show on January 26, 2023. Since her contract was not renewed, more details have come out about why she is leaving.

The top leaders of the Radio Africa Group franchise are said to have had enough of the radio host, who was reportedly making more than 500,000 shillings per month.

Andrew Kibe and her were taken from NRG Radio and hired by Kiss FM on June 14, 2019. This made a lot of noise on social media.

Later, Kibe left, and the comedian Jalangó took his place. When Jalangó left to run for a seat in the Lang’ata parliament, he was replaced by Oga Obinna.

When Kamene’s contract ran out, the people in charge at Kiss FM decided not to renew it.

Sources at Lion’s Place, where Radio Africa is based, say that the bosses were fed up with Kamene’s bad habit of skipping work for silly reasons.

“Kamene often didn’t go to work, and most of the time she would say she was sick, but she would later post photos and videos on social media of someone else in a completely different situation,” a source said.

The top bosses didn’t notice for a while, but it was only a matter of time before they did.

“When the top management found out, it made her and them disagree. There was a disciplinary panel set up to look into her behavior, and people she worked closely with said she would text them at 6 AM, an hour before her show started, to say she wouldn’t be able to make it to work and ask someone to take care of her brief,” the source said.

Another reason she left was that the number of people who watched her show was going down.

“Over time, her show’s ratings had gone down compared to when she first started working there, so advertisers weren’t interested in it. Given her high salary, it was decided to let her contract expire and hire someone else.”

When Nairobi News first heard that Kamene was leaving, they called her on the phone, but the angry radio host wasn’t ready to talk about it.

“I have nothing to say, but how is it news that I’m leaving the show? You should know that leaving isn’t easy, so you should leave people alone.” Before she hung up, she said.

Sheila Kwamboka, also known as Kwambox, is 38 years old and very energetic. She is replacing the outspoken and honest Kamene, who left Vybez Radio last week. She will take over on Monday of the following week.

Kwambox has a lot of fans in the Gen Z age group, which makes her stand out because the station’s brand is young.
