Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones and Nigerian Ayra Starr will headline the Shoke Shoke festival on March 3 and 4 at the Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi.

Shoke Shoke is a slang inversion of Swahili kesho, which means tomorrow in English.

In a press statement, the Mwanaume Ni Effort initiative, which is organizing the concert, said the sustainable music festival will be the first of its kind in Nairobi and aim to educate youth on the importance of going green and change their behavior for a sustainable environment.

“We love entertainment and the environment. Music and entertainment are the best ways to spread sustainability to Gen Z and millennials. We will pay for destroying our home, the environment. Earthlings must act responsibly. “Shoke Shoke wants to change sustainability,” stated Festival Director Baraza Mwabe.

Mr. Baraza Mwabe added that the entertainment industry as a whole damages the environment during festivals, but Shoke Shoke festival will focus on triggering the entertainment industry to have a conversation about sustainability, setting the agenda for these conversations, and leading the way to green entertainment festivals in Kenya.

The festival will have recycling and no single-use plastics, and Miti Alliance and the Kenya Forest Services will plant 10,000 trees to support the government’s Jaza Miti Program.

According to a 2021 MasterCard study, 65 percent of Kenyan young and millennials are concerned about environmental challenges and eager to take action.
